For the artist, the writer, or the sketcher in you – Portumna Arts
Group invites you to join with local artistic people on a Creative
Crawl of Portumna on Saturday July 3rd as part of Portumna’s Chamber
Of Commerce Outdoor Festival. Meeting Point will be the Marina (via
the Castle Gates) at 11.30 am. The Creative Crawl (2 hours approx)
will visit several locations (chosen for their architectural features)
within short walking distance of each other, at chosen intervals, so
your thoughts and drawings will need to be fast and focused! Whether
Portumna Pen Pushers and Portumna Maple Poetry Group held a 'poet's picnic' (of course there was more than one poet, so it should have been a 'poets' picnic', but don't let's get hung up on punctuation!).
I know, I know, we should have done it sooner, but between this and that, and then the other, I've only gotten around to it now. Some phots of the Word Aid for Haiti have been added.
We had a great night in Stronge's (as always) and got a decent crowd - certainly enough to be able to send some hundreds of euro to the unfortunates in Haiti.

In imitation of W.B. Yeats’ ‘Aedh Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven
Had I but money equal to a taxi fare,
To enable me to avoid such a fate –
The kicks and punches and bruises
Of a youthful Saturday night –
I would have ordered a taxi home.
But I, being drunk, have gotten into a fight;
I am spread in drunkenness under your feet;
Jump softly because you jump on my head.

Friday, Feb 19th at 8.30pm Portumna’s wordsmiths, writers, singers and readers are encouraged to bring a piece on the theme of “Hope” to Stronge’s Bar.
This Word Aid event is organised by the Maple Poetry Group to raise funds for the devastation that no word can describe in Haiti.
It was with great surprise I unfolded the gift of Limericks I received from Portumna Library recently. Every year I judge various writing competitions and there are always a few gems to be found. This year’s bundle had quite a few- that made my task all the more enjoyable though difficult. Firstly, I want to congratulate every young person who entered. Each one of you recognised and understood the format of a Limerick.
Shorelines Arts Festival got underway with the Launch by Pauraic Breathnach in the Nunnery on Thursday evening where local sponsors and artists gathered to see the Art Exhibition in the beautiful setting of the old Convent.
